Geary County Schools Serving the Military Family

Unified School District 475

On October 19, 2005, the voters of Geary County U.S.D. 475 approved a $33 million bond issue for the construction of a new 1,100 student Junction City Middle School, a new 400 student elementary school and improvements/additions to other schools.  Sale of the bonds will take place on December 5, 2005.  Construction on the new buildings is expected to begin in March or April of 2006 with an anticipated completion date in the Fall of 2007.  The new construction is in response to the announced increase of soldiers and civillian personel at Fort Riley over the next 2 to 5 years.  U.S.D. 475 is planning for a significant growth in enrollment, which is projected to be at least 3,000 students by 2008.

All elementary schools have grades kindergarten-5. The five elementary schools on Fort Riley are Morris Hill, Jefferson, Custer Hill, Fort Riley, and Ware. Fort Riley Middle School serves students in grades 6-8. All High School students, including those living on Fort Riley, attend Junction City High School in the city of Junction City.

All schools are air-conditioned and are equipped with computer labs. Information on school boundaries, school statistics, fees, enrollment dates, and much more can be found here in the USD 475 website. [Learn More]
